The thing that I actually liked the most out of all the Microsoft conference was Minecraft on the XBox, the rest I was expecting. Honestly Halo 4 looks good but I don't expect much and the whole thing about live tv... seriously not gonna work...

EA's one was a little bit more promising, I loved Battlefield 3, naturally. Though The Sims on Facebook... That is gonna destroy us all. The standard sports were expected etc etc etc... But I suppose the biggest surprise for me was Reckoning. Looks good and with the adaptive storyline generation, Can't wait. Mass Effect 3... well what needs to be said...

Yeah they announced that Halo 4 would be the start of a "new" trilogy of games... sigh i thought it was an old series. Also they are making a true HD remake of the original Halo.

Rather excited about Rocksmith, though I don't like the way he talked about North America release... Also looking forward to TrackMania 2 Canyon. Rather excited about the online play as I loved all the previous titles. Though I have to say I am not enjoying the Ubisoft press conference, too much comedy and glitter, not enough actual hands on gameplay...

Did anyone else think that the sony press conference was a bit like they were trying to hide things behind all the humour? I dunno I got a real dodgy feeling from them though I do like the idea of the Vita... Still probably won't get one as they are sony... I am also interested in this which extra DLC for Battlefield 1943 exclusive to PS?... I think they kinda screwed themselves cause the Vita was meant to be their big thing but it got leaked a week early lol

Just caught a glimpse of some of the stuff on offer from e3, haven't really had time to digest all of it or get a handle on what is going on. So really just some initial thoughts from myself.

Overall: There doesn't seem to be a lot of 'new stuff' on display, all the big announcements seem to be games with a number at the end of the title or a reboot or a prequel. Or in the case of some games ports to other platforms. Woot! minecraft on the 360, not really sure on the thinking behind this one, most people that want minecraft have it. Coupled with the fact that a lot of people seem less interest in the mining aspect, and are more into the crafting element, so much so they alter the code of game for infinite resource, a more accurate title would be Hackcraft, hahaha I’m so witty. Oh wait it's more addictive than hyper crack, never mind.

The other thing that caught my eye was that a lot of emphasise seems to be placed on technology, Sony in particular seem very keen to push their new 3d screens, constantly stating that games will support it and move. The other two are guilty as well Nintendo’s big announcement after all is the Wii U, can’t wait to hear all the puns on this name. Microsoft seems to be very eager to point out the Kinect still exists, so much so the big announcement for Mass Effect 3 seems to be voice interaction. I wonder how well this will cope with accents, my guess is not well, oh well it means that my frustrated admonishments at the TV will actually have justification.

SONY: I’m massively impressed with, as they seem to be the only company that year after year are capable of being completely uninspiring and incapable of manifesting hype. It would be funny if it wasn’t so soul crushingly depressing, it’s like apathetically watching someone attempt to kill themselves. This is quite an accomplishment, considering even Hollywood is capable of releasing at least a handful of films a year that I go to see.

So what have they announced, well another prototype of the PSP, which seems have gone for the schizophrenic approach to interaction, having obviously taking the universal remote as inspiration for its interface design. With 6 axis motion sensor, duel analogue sticks, shoulder buttons, traditional buttons, touch screen, rear touch screen, ESP and brain wave sensors it looks unwieldy and without finesse. Trying to decide what to do at any given time is often difficult enough, but now with the added head ache of deciding how to do it, just seems like too much. Then there is the question of game support, how many developers are going to take the time and effort developing titles for this, especially given the limited shelf life of hand held counsels. Nor has there been any mention of its battery life.

Desperate to find a mascot after a paltry 15 years, we get treated to one more Uncharted game. Going against the Tabula Rasa protagonist style, favoured by Bungie, Valve, Bethesda and Bioware, Naughty Dog have opted for unfettered indulgence, and decided to see just how much obnoxiousness they can cram into one person and just how many franchises they can rip off. One has to wonder how many more games there will be in this series, before it can challenge Final Fantasy for the acclaimed accolade of most misleading game title.

Resistance 3: Battle Field Earth, see’s you trying to stick one to the Chimera, yet another alien race that has conquered Earth, because it can, is obsessed with glowing things and all look the same. The major thing that Resistance has going for it is its arsenal of weaponry, mixing interesting alien tech with WW2 era guns, allows you to change things up a little. Also why they choose show case an escort mission where you’re the escorted is beyond me, these are not fun, and they never were nor will they ever be anything other than an exercise in frustration.

Sony seem to be trying justify to everybody, including themselves, that the Move is a relevant and innovate piece of kit, not an out dated knock off piece of plastic that is as relevant and cutting edge as 3-D. What better way to do this than to show it off on than with a game that looks like it should be on the PS 2, Medieval Moves, before people start getting excited this isn’t anything to do MediEvil. Apart from being monotonously bland, you’re a skeleton fighting other skeletons, oh the inspiring innovation, the mechanics just look like the same stuff we’ve seen from the Wii from day one. If this is the best they can do, they might as well just give up on it now, it just still feels too gimmicky.

That’s enough of my bile for now, next on the chopping block Microsoft and Nintendo.
